Basketball Coach
Cheri Harrer enters her 34th season as Women’s Basketball Head Coach in the 2023-24 campaign. She was named the OAC Coach of the year for the 2019-2020 and 2021-2022 seasons.
The Yellow Jackets lead in the OAC in NCAA appearances with 17. Harrer has spent her entire teaching and coaching career dedicated to the academic and athletic success of her student-athletes. Harrer is an outstanding basketball coach and her program is highly regarded among the elite in NCAA Division III.
Every year, Harrer’s team is in the hunt for both an OAC regular season and OAC Tournament title, and the 2019-2020 season’s squad had compiled a 28-2 record and won the OAC regular season and OAC Tournament titles. The OAC regular season crown was Harrer’s ninth and the OAC Tournament crown was her seventh.
Harrer spent the 1990-1998 seasons building the program into a winner. The program went from winning eight games her first season to 23 victories and a 23-6 record in 1997-1998. Since the 1998-1999 season, and in addition to her OAC titles, Harrer and the Yellow Jackets have advanced to the “Elite 8” of the NCAA Division III National Tournament three times and to the “Sweet 16” five times.
Prior to BW, Harrer spent five years gaining coaching experience. at Bowling Green State University, Bluffton University and the University of Findlay, her alma mater. While earning her degree in math education at Findlay, she was a four-year starter for their basketball program. She also lettered two years in volleyball and three years in track.
