Basketball Coach
Cody Hartzler enters his eighth season as an assistant coach at Baldwin Wallace University in 2022-23. After seven seasons, Hartzler has made an extensive impact on the program. Recently being named Associate Head Coach, Hartzler has an overall record of 134-47 (.740), through the last seven season, at BW with Head Coach Cheri Harrer. He helped the Yellow Jackets to an Ohio Athletic Conference regular season and tournament title in the 2021-22 season, their third straight and 16th overall NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament appearance.
Hartzler has helped coach and develop two Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-Americans, three WBCA All-Region selections, 10 All-OAC selections, three Academic All-District recipients, and has helped the team to five WBCA Academic Top-25 awards.
Hartzler was awarded the BW Women’s Athletics Coach of the Year in 2015-16 and was named a WBCA Thirty Under 30 presented by Mariott Rewards® honoree in March of 2017, one of four NCAA Division III coaches to receive the honor. Hartzler came to BW after spending two years as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Washington and Jefferson (Pa.) College.
Hartzler earned a bachelor’s degree from Kutztown (Pa.) University in leisure and sports studies and a master’s degree in business administration with a healthcare management concentration from Bluffton. As a student-athlete, he was a Division II All-American in the high jump, a four-time All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference track and field selection, a two-year team captain and Dean’s List student. He resides in Berea with his wife and kids.
