Summer Dance Immersion | Grades 9-12

Image

The Summer Dance Immersion is a unique dance experience designed to bring together serious dancers in grades 9-12 from studios across the region to develop artistic growth, cultivate existing dance technique, and challenge new technical development. Dancers will work with master instructors, challenge their technical development, and experience new dance styles to deepen their love of dance through their versatility and accomplishment. This dance experience will be a gathering place of excellence in dance, designed to complement, enhance, and further students’ own studio training.

Students will live on the Baldwin Wallace University campus and participate in a variety of dance and social activities. Dance Immersion will allow the students to foster lasting connections and powerful friendships with other dancers.

Dance Immersion is not to be missed!

Note: Dance Immersion has a limited number of participants. We recommend registering as soon as possible to ensure participation. There will be no exception to the number of dancers allowed at the Summer Dance Immersion.

Curriculum and Schedule

NEW THIS YEAR! Dance Immersion will be split into two areas of focus to allow dancers a more customizable experience that allows them to achieve their individual goals. Dancers may choose a Ballet/Contemporary focus or a Jazz/Commercial Dance focus. All dancers will receive training in multiple dance genres, these areas of focus just allow dancers one additional class per day in their primary area.

The curriculum for the Dance Immersion will include classes in ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, acro, hip hop, ballroom, and improvisation. Students will also study nutrition, kinesiology, audition prep, and choreography composition. Students can expect to take 4-5 active dance classes per day and 1-2 lecture-style classes per day. In addition, dancers will have a daily recreational activity designed to promote friendship, fun, and bonding among the dancers. Camp activities include movie nights, photo shoots, bonfires, and more!

Enhance Your Camp Experience With Dance Immersion Emphasis Programs

Emphasis programs are designed to enhance the existing Dance Immerison core curriculum by including daily additional workshops with a targeted goal. Emphasis programs are an additional tuition add on experience and are not required of dancers. Dancer’s may only select one emphasis per summer.

Music Theatre Emphasis: In addition to the individual Dance Immersion curriculum, dancers in the Music Theatre emphasis program participate in workshop-style classes where they study performance skills, music selection, and vocal technique.

Recovery and Mechanics Emphasis: In addition to the individual Dance Immersion curriculum, dancers in the Recovery and Mechanics emphasis program participate in workshop-style classes where they study muscle recovery and techniques designed to care for the strenuous demands put on a dancer’s body.

Choreography Composition Emphasis: In addition to the individual Dance Immersion curriculum, dancers in the Choreography Composition emphasis program participate in workshop-style classes where they explore how to create unique and expressive choreography transferring their own technique and artistry into unique works.

Faculty

Master faculty are at the core of the CAS Summer Dance Immersion. Faculty will consist of current BW University faculty, BW Community Arts School faculty, and guest instructors from across the country. These master instructors will bring unparalleled knowledge and cutting-edge material to the dance floor.

Placement

All dedicated dance students with a willingness to learn are encouraged to attend Dance Immersion. While we will have a lot of fun during the week, students must be focused on growing their technique, learning new skills, and developing their artistry.

Through a placement process, students will be placed in classes based on their individual ability level. We want to be sure that every student is placed in classes that will benefit them the most and enable the greatest opportunity for personal growth.

Placement videos must be received by the deadline to be considered. You may register for the Summer Dance Immersion to reserve your spot early and send in your placement materials later, but all materials must be received by the deadline.

Housing

Dance Immersion is a residential camp. Dancers will have the opportunity to live in dormitories on the beautiful Baldwin Wallace University campus.

Dancers will be placed in rooms with other campers of a similar age. Dancers may request a specific roommate. We do our best to accommodate requests but cannot guarantee all requests.
